A Public Safety and Essential City Services Measure
Measure X was a ballot initiative on the November 2018 ballot that increased Oceanside's sales tax 1/2 cent for a period for seven years, beginning on April 1, 2019. Measure X passed on November 6, 2018, with 55.7% of Oceanside's vote. Starting April 1, 2019, the sales tax rate in Oceanside is 8.25%.
Measure X revenue is used solely to enhance public safety, improve road conditions, bolster the City's infrastructure, and aid in homelessness. The expenditures are reviewed by a Citizen Oversight Committee, which makes recommendations to the City Council.

Citizen Oversight Committee Meetings

History of Measure X
- The City conducted a Revenue Measure Feasibility Study Summary Report in November 2017.
- The City Council voted on June 6, 2018, to place a measure on the November 6, 2018 ballot.
- The Registrar of Voters assigned the Measure letter X. Measure X would raise the sales tax in the City of Oceanside by 1/2 percent for a period of seven years.
- Measure X passed on November 6, 2018, by 55.7% of voters. Starting April 1, 2019, the sales tax rate in Oceanside is 8.25%.
Citizens Oversight Committee Background
The City Council approved the establishment of the Citizens Oversight Committee, Ordinance, and Spending Pledge on November 28, 2018.
Citizens Oversight Committee members were appointed by the City Council on February 6, 2019.
