Eric Joyce was elected to represent Oceanside’s District 1 on November 8, 2022.  Prior to this election, he served on Oceanside Unified School District’s Board where he led on initiatives to rebuild underfunded schools, update books and curriculum, and implement an innovative “community school model” in our most impacted schools.  Eric earned his M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction from Radford University and has been a special education teacher for ten years.  His experience with youth has led to him becoming an advocate for their inclusion in the civic process. 
 
In the community, Councilmember Joyce volunteers with many local organizations working to fight homelessness, curb gun violence, address food scarcity and other community needs.  He also served as the chair of the North San Diego County NAACP's committee to end the school to prison pipeline.  Eric is a present and receptive member of the Oceanside community where he shares pride in the city that is beautifully diverse, historically resilient and ready for positive change. He lives with his wife and two young children in Oceanside.
